Medical, dental and vision

WSU offers a comprehensive and valuable medical benefits program for our staff and faculty. As a new hire, you have 45 days from your date of hire to elect to participate in the medical, dental and/or vision coverage. Coverage will start on the first day of the month following the date of hire (if the date of hire is the first of the month, benefits begin on that day).

Medical

WSU offers five medical plan options to choose from. Additional information on what medical expenses are covered can be found in the summary of benefits and coverage documentation.

If you are an employee covered by a non-WSU health insurance plan, you may decline medical coverage and, in return, have $50 applied to your pay each pay period (except the two non-deduction pays per year). Graduate Assistants receive $30 per pay. Learn more on the HR website.

Dental

Dental insurance benefits are provided by Delta Dental, which is a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). The plan covers a wide range of medically necessary dental services. You have two dental plan options: Basic or Enhanced. Learn more on the HR website.

Vision

Vision insurance benefits are provided by Eyemed, using the “Select” network. The plan allows you to improve your eye health, while saving you money on your eye care purchases. You have two dental plan options: Basic or Enhanced. Learn more on the HR website.

Cost

Medical, dental and vision rates are available for review on the HR website.

Your compensation package includes a sizable investment in your medical, dental and vision benefits. The university pays a large share of the cost of your health insurance. You pay the employee portion through automatic bi-weekly deductions from your pay. There are 24 deductions for 12-month employees and 18 deductions for 9-month employees, per year.

Changes in coverage (e.g., adding dependents when a life event occurs) may result in deduction adjustments. Review your pay stub and submit a general inquiry ticket if you have questions regarding your deductions.
