The Wayne State University Departmental Shared Drive Access Portal allows users to manage access to their W: drive or departmental shared files and/or drives stored on Wayne State servers via self-service. The tools provided in the access portal allow users to view access reports, grant access to new users, or modify existing user access. Although individual access permission reports are available to everyone, changes to shared department resources can only be made by directors, business managers, or delegated personnel.
The self-service portal is accessible on campus and remotely. Remote users must connect to the WSU network via VPN to access the self-service portal.
To access the portal, visit the Departmental Shared Drive Access Portal and sign in with your Wayne State email address and password.
Understanding folder-level access
Access is delegated at the second level by C&IT. This is mainly to prevent accidental moves of folders and to maintain security. Users cannot create new folders at the second level. However, they can manage access at the second level if they are the owner of the folder. Users are given full access and control at the third level, allowing them to add, modify, and remove any folders they own at the third level.

FAQs
Why do I receive a security alert when accessing the Departmental Shared Drive Access Portal from my personal device?
When accessing the Departmental Shared Drive Access Portal from an unmanaged WSU device, users may receive an SSL certificate check alert notifying them that the connection is unsecure. You may bypass this alert to continue to the site by selecting Advanced and clicking on Continue/Proceed to site.
How do I delete, create, or modify an employee’s access to a shared drive or user files?
Campus and Classroom Technology Services (CCTS) customers may use this CCTS service request form to request changes to an employee's access to departmental folders or user files. All problems are addressed on a first-come, first-serve basis and the typical response time is within two business days. For emergency assistance during regular business hours, please contact the Help Desk at 313-577-4357 or helpdesk@wayne.edu.
What are role groups?
Role Groups are bundled folders based on an employee's job role within their department. C&IT’s Endpoint Applications Engineering team works with Directors and BAOs to create these groups so users can be quickly onboarded. The preferred and quickest way to delegate access is with the Self-Service Portal since it allows users to allocate multiple folders at once and may contain cross-departmental folders that users do not own but commonly need for their department.
How do I request ownership of a folder in the Departmental Shared Drive Portal?
Ownership of a Role Group can be obtained by submitting a department data request ticket.
