How to Setup PuTTY for the Grid

This article walks users through downloading and configuring PuTTY to connect to the WSU Grid

Follow the steps below to set up PuTTY for the Grid.

Step 1

Download PuTTY. Under Alternative binary files, select the appropriate version of putty.exe.

  • 64-bit version: Requires a 64-bit processor and a 64-bit edition of Windows (common on most modern PCs)
  • 32-bit version: Compatible with all processors and Windows versions supported by PuTTY
Step 2

Open the PuTTY software you downloaded and run PuTTY

Step 3

Configure PuTTY:

  • In the Host Name field, type grid.wayne.edu​​​.
  • Under Connection type select SSH
Step 4

Save the configuration:

  • In the Saved Sessions field enter Grid
  • Click Save
Step 5

Click Open to connect to the Grid. 

Step 6

To log in:

  • When prompted for login as, enter your AccessID.
  • When prompted for password, enter your AccessID password. For security reasons, your password will not appear in the terminal.
  • When prompted for Your Google one-time verification code, enter the code generated by your Google Authenticator app. If you do not have Google Authenticator set up, refer to our instructions to get started.
