Streams are the very core of Academica. Streams are how you learn what others are talking about and how you collaborate with your fellow Warriors. You can follow streams based on classes, groups, interests, resources, and more.
A stream is a list of posts, very much like a Facebook timeline. Posts can be made by stream authors and read by followers. Posts can also be removed by stream moderators. Authors may choose to file posts under multiple streams at one time.
Stream types
Personal streams
Every user has their own Personal Stream which shows up on their Profile page.
- These streams can be read by any user, but only the stream owner can post to or delete posts on it.
- You can follow other users and their streams will appear in your homepage feed.
Course streams
- Academica creates course streams to supplement communication outside of the classroom.
- Students and faculty are automatically added to a course stream upon enrollment.
- Both students and faculty can post in these streams and like/dislike or comment on posts.
- Course streams are not public and do not appear in the public stream list.
- Users may apply for access; Instructors may also invite users.
- Students are removed if they drop out of the class.
- Instructors are moderators and may edit/remove posts, add/remove authors, and manage user access.
- Course streams appear in the left-hand sidebar under the header Courses.

Course streams exist indefinitely. Students and faculty may continue to read or post in them after the semester. Archived streams appear under the Courses (Archived) header.

Find and follow streams
If you know the name of a stream or at least a related keyword, use the Search field within the navigation bar at the top of the Academica homepage to find streams.
For example: If you search "math", any stream that has "math" in the title will appear under the Streams header on the search results page. Click the name of any stream to visit it. If it is public, you will see all of the posts on that stream.
To explore more streams, click Browse Public Streams under the Subscribed Streams header on the bottom left side of the Academica homepage or visit the stream directory.

Public streams are open to everyone at WSU. Anyone may subscribe to a public stream and anyone may submit a post to a public stream.
- Go to the stream's page.
- Click the Membership drop-down located in the top left corner of the stream page.
- Select and click Become a Member to subscribe. Once subscribed, the stream will automatically appear in your Academica homepage feed.

Moderated streams require a request to join.
- Search for the stream and click on the name.
- You'll be taken to an Application Page with a Stream Access Form.
- Check the box beside I'd like to become a member of this stream.
- Click Apply.

You may also follow the personal streams of other users (staff, faculty, students, applicants, and retirees). To do this, go to a user's personal profile and click Follow underneath their profile photo.
