SPSS for Students is available as a no-cost self-service download through the C&IT Help Desk software webstore. SPSS for Students is exclusively available for free to enrolled students for academic use only on a personally owned computer and may not be installed on University owned computers. Access to SPSS is based on user role, and those with dual roles (e.g. employee and student) may not be able to access certain items in the webstore hidden from one of their role classes. Employees with student status must email the Help Desk with the following information to access SPSS in the store:
- Full name
- AccessID
- Course number
- Brief description of academic need
How to download new licenses or renew existing licenses
Obtaining the latest product will have the latest activation code that can then be applied using the included renewal instructions.
Step 1
Go to commerce.wayne.edu/helpdesk and log in with your AccessID and password.
Step 2
Click Student Software.
Step 3
Select the SPSS category from the left-hand list and click SPSS.
Step 4
Add it to your shopping cart with your course number and description of use.
Step 5
Complete the order by selecting checkout in the upper right-hand corner. Once completed, SPSS for Students will be available through the My Downloads link in the upper right-hand corner. If you are renewing the software from last year, you will need to complete the same process and use the latest activation code available in the Product Key & Installation Instructions PDF download located in the My Downloads section. The actual software will be available with these downloads as well.`
How to update SPSS license
If you have purchased a license for SPSS, you must enter the code into your software. Follow the steps below to update your SPSS license.
Step 1
Click on the start menu and under All Programs click on the folder labeled IBM SPSS Statistics to expand it.
Step 2
Click IBM SPSS Statistics License Authorization Wizard.
Step 3
When the wizard starts, it will show a summary of your current license status. Click Next.
Step 4
Check the box License my product now and click Next.
Step 5
Enter the code for the version of SPSS you are trying to license and click Next.
Step 6
The wizard will display either Successfully processed all codes or an error.
- If an error is displayed:
- Click Copy Status and paste the status into a document.
- Call the C&IT Help Desk for help with the error.
- If the transaction was successful:
- Click Next.
- Your updated license status will be displayed.
- Click Finish and run SPSS to verify everything is working correctly.

2. Where can I find my SPSS activation code?
Once you've completed the checkout for SPSS through the C&IT Help Desk store, you will find the activation code on the My Downloads tab. There you'll find a link entitled Product Key & Installation Instructions. This is a PDF document that you can download to your computer or open in your web browser. This file will contain the available activation code(s) for the SPSS download(s) available through your order. The installation/renewal instructions are included with this document in the steps following the activation code to assist you with applying the code.
