Zoom is Wayne State University's enterprise video conferencing service. It enables faculty, staff and students to host and attend online meetings, classes and events. Wayne State’s Zoom service is integrated with other enterprise tools, including Canvas and Microsoft 365, to support seamless communication and collaboration. With a Wayne State Zoom license, users receive access to advanced features beyond the limitations of free Zoom accounts.

  • Host meetings up to 24 hours in duration
  • Invite up to 300 attendees per meeting
  • Participants can join by computer, mobile app (iOS/Android), or phone
  • Collaboration tools including breakout rooms, polling, meeting chat, and file sharing
  • Accessibility options including cloud recording with optional transcript and closed captioning support

Zoom is available to all active Wayne State University students, faculty, and staff. Users must log in with their Wayne State AccessID and password to access licensed features.

Connect an existing free account to the Wayne State license

If you previously created a free Zoom account using your Wayne State email (AccessID@wayne.edu), you can upgrade to a licensed Wayne State Zoom account to access extended features.

Step 1

Go to https://zoom.us and log in with your Zoom account using your Wayne State email address.

Step 2

You will be prompted to update your account information.

Step 3

Click Consolidate into Account and then click Continue.

Step 4

Follow the prompts to complete the transition.

Your account will be upgraded within 24-48 hours. Until the upgrade is complete, meetings will still be limited to 40 minutes. Periodically check your Zoom profile to confirm that the User Type is Licensed (not Basic). If the upgrade takes longer than 48 hours, contact the C&IT Help Desk.

Download Zoom desktop or mobile app

C&IT recommends using the Zoom app instead of the web app if you are hosting a meeting.

Step 1

Download the correct version of the app for your device.

  • Desktop (Zoom will automatically detect if you are accessing the download from a Windows or Mac computer.)
  • Android
  • iOS
Step 2

Once it is installed, open Zoom.

Step 3

Click Sign in.

Step 4

Click Sign in with SSO.

Step 5

Enter wayne-edu in the Company domain field and click Continue.

Step 6

A new web browser window will open and you will be redirected to the Wayne State login page. Enter your AccessID and password.

  • If you are already logged in to Academica, you will be automatically signed into Zoom.
