What is Canvas?
Canvas is Wayne State University's web-based learning management system. Students have online access for classes, including digital materials, assignment submissions, due-date calendar and instructor/student messaging. Canvas is supported by the C&IT Help Desk.
Download the Canvas mobile app
Step 1
Go to your mobile phone app store. Search Canvas by Instructure.

Step 2
Click Find my school. Enter Wayne State University and select it when found.

Step 3
Enter WSU credentials when prompted.

The app will open on your Canvas dashboard.
Set up email and push notifications on Canvas mobile app
Step 1
While in the app, click upper left and then Settings.


Step 3
In Settings, go to Email Notifications and/or Push Notifications. Select how often you want emails regarding activity in your Canvas courses and/or push notifications.
Set up your profile on canvas.wayne.edu
Step 1
While in Canvas, click Account in the upper left and then click Profile.

Step 2
Click Edit Profile Picture to add an image. Click the three vertical dots and then Edit Profile to add name pronunciation, preferred pronouns, contact information, biography, links, etc.

Click Save Profile when finished.
Use your Canvas Inbox
The Canvas Inbox is used to communicate between you and your instructors, and classmates. The Inbox encompasses ALL courses.
You can tell when you have messages when a number appears by the calendar icon. Click to view messages.

Use your Canvas Calendar
The Canvas Calendar is used to keep track of course due dates across ALL of your courses. A running To Do quick view appears on your Dashboard. To view your full calendar, click View calendar.
